Changing Lives Changing Perspective
Our Founder and Leader
With nothing but a but a strong desire to support any child in need, Ms. Monica Swann took a giant leap of faith and danced into her destiny that God had prepared for her. Twenty years ago Monica had the dream of opening a Youth Center to provide pregnancy and sex counseling to teen age girls. Over the years, that dream has expanded to developing our youth and providing them with the skills necessary to become leaders and successful and productive members of society.
TAS’ Place is named after Monica’s granddaughter Trinity Alise Swann. God gave her the name “TAS” on March 12, 2005, when Trinity entered the world. Two months later, Monica relocated to Georgia where she was told that she was “walking, no dancing, into her destiny.”
In June 2008, Monica, with the assistance of Cayla and Asia, both 12 at the time, opened the doors to TAS’ Place. Through word of mouth, the Center now provides services to youth, both male and female, ranging in ages 9-30.
Monica, or Miss Monica, as everyone calls her, has been involved with youth of all ages for as long as she can remember. From the children of her co-workers, who would hang out at her desk because she always had a bag of toys and acted silly with them, to the various positions she has held within the youth ministries of the churches that she has attended, Monica strives everyday to put a smile on the face of a child.
Monica received her B.S. in Management from the University of Maryland, University College and also has an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix. She is in the final stages of completing her PhD in Public Policy with a focus on Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Walden University.
Her passion for impacting the community gives her the motivation to continue her philanthropic services and is a direct precursor to her success. In her free time, she volunteers for the local church where she is the Sunday School Ministry Leader, a member of the Early Morning Choir and is a licensed Reverend/Minister. She has also taught Sunday School and bible study to middle school students. In addition, she enjoys reading , running and watching classic movies.
TAS’ Place and its members invite you to participate in their workshops. Come out and be an inspiration to your community. All it takes is one brick added to another brick and before you know it not only has the foundation been laid, but you have created a community filled with pride and a sense of self worth.
In the future, Monica hopes that the organization will establish a nationwide presence.
For Monica, it’s all about the impact on the child!
