Every organization begins with a story. TAS' Place began with one woman's unwavering belief that every young person deserves to know they matter.
More than twenty years ago, Monica L. Swann envisioned creating a safe place where young people could find encouragement, guidance, and hope. What started as a dream to support teenage girls has grown into a community-based nonprofit committed to developing confident leaders, strengthening families, and building thriving communities.
Today, that vision continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the same purpose: helping individuals discover their potential and equipping them with the tools to succeed in every area of life.
The Meaning Behind TAS' Place
TAS' Place is named in honor of Monica's granddaughter, Trinity Alise Swann.
On March 12, 2005, the day Trinity was born, Monica received the name "TAS" and immediately recognized it as more than a name—it was the beginning of a vision. Just two months later, she relocated to Georgia, where someone told her she wasn't simply moving...
"...you are walking into your destiny."
In June 2008, with the help of two remarkable twelve-year-old girls, Cayla and Asia, TAS' Place officially opened its doors. Those humble beginnings laid the foundation for what has become an organization dedicated to empowering youth, supporting families, and creating opportunities that transform communities.
A Lifetime of Leadership
Monica has spent her life investing in people.
Throughout a distinguished 34-year career in federal service, she led with integrity, compassion, and excellence while developing leaders, solving complex challenges, and serving the public.
Her commitment to developing others extends beyond her professional career. She has served in numerous leadership roles within the church, mentoring youth, teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies, and encouraging individuals of all ages to discover their God-given purpose. In 2025, she was ordained as a minister, further affirming a calling that has guided her life's work for decades.
Whether known as "Monica" or affectionately as Miss Monica, she is recognized for creating welcoming spaces where people feel seen, valued, and inspired to grow.
Education
Monica earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix.
Her commitment to lifelong learning continues to shape her leadership, nonprofit work, and passion for community development.
The Vision Today
Today, TAS' Place is entering a new chapter.
Through innovative academies, community initiatives, and the SymmeTri Community Collaborative, the organization is expanding its impact by developing leaders, strengthening families, and creating meaningful partnerships that address the evolving needs of the community.
Monica believes lasting transformation happens when individuals, families, organizations, businesses, schools, faith communities, and government partners work together toward a shared purpose.
Her vision is not simply to build programs—it is to build people.
